Open Architecture Studio was engaged to design the master plan for a 10 year vision for the Rockhampton Jockey Club to create a state-of-the-art equine, sporting, community and event facility.
The initial stage will offer an extensive upgrade to the precinct, including the redevelopment and extension of the existing clubhouse and facilities, a new extended thoroughbred turf track with a 1200m straight, an outdoor all-weather arena and training facility and an expansion to the permanent stabling facilities.
Project benefits
The precinct will add significant amenity to the Rockhampton and Central Queensland region, with the view to attract major sporting events and have a positive community impact as well as social and economic benefits to the region.
The redevelopment will also provide a significant local community engagement hub, providing many opportunities for education, therapy, leisure and social activities.
