The Stafford Urban Renewal vision is an Open Architecture Studio initiative — a design proposal that reimagines what is possible when underutilised urban land is given back to its community.
Centred on Kedron Brook's restored landscape, the proposal transforms a fragmented light-industrial corridor into a vibrant, walkable, mixed-use precinct. New medium- to high-density buildings are oriented to "face the creek," with boardwalk dining, creekside pavilions and active travel links weaving the waterway into everyday life. A reimagined high street, central park, swimming lagoons and upgraded community facilities complete the vision of a climate-responsive urban village — one that is connected, shaded, and designed for the subtropical climate it inhabits.
The proposal draws on Open's deep experience in urban renewal, sports and recreation, and community infrastructure, and reflects our belief that great cities are shaped not just by what gets built, but by the conversations that precede it. Stakeholder engagement has informed the vision, and the project continues to evolve as an exploration of what genuine urban transformation can look like in South East Queensland's growing urban fabric.
