The Emerge Cooma Terrace Townhouses are the result of a collaboration between Open Architecture Studio, Jasper Brown Architects and Arcadian Developments. The four terrace houses in the heart of Caloundra create a new dwelling type in the beachside location, offering five-story, vertical living that responds thoughtfully to its context and climate.
The design team worked hard to craft an uplifting daily experience for inhabitants, through well-connected internal and external spaces and quality materials and finishes. The facade takes cues from the eroded sandstone forms of the nearby headland, carved away to provide indoor / outdoor living attuned to the subtropical climate. At ground level, individual gatehouses present a domestic scale to the street, whilst hardy, coastal planting takes greenery to every level.
Delivering on Arcadian’s aspirations, the development has a strong street presence without disrupting the existing feel of the suburb. For residents, the townhouses offer abundant natural light, stunning views and beautifully detailed interiors. The project received a Commendation in the 2021 Queensland Regional Architecture Awards and was shortlisted in the 2021 Houses Awards.
