The Noosa Regional Gallery has become a beacon for contemporary art, redefining Noosa's identity as a cultural destination. To continue this momentum, Noosa Shire Council proposed an expanded gallery — and Open joined a consortium led by Knight Frank to develop the business case for its redevelopment.
Our contribution was grounded in the kind of rigorous, research-led process we believe produces the most substantiated outcomes. Working within a full Queensland Government business case format, held comprehensive stakeholder engagement, conducted a thorough site options analysis, and provided designs for multiple redevelopment scenarios — each evaluated against the gallery's vision, mission, and operational requirements.
Rather than arriving at predetermined conclusions, every recommendation emerged from evidence: site analysis, alignment assessment, and diagrammatic representations of each option to communicate scale and spatial relationships clearly to decision-makers. It is an approach that ensures innovative ideas are always backed by sound reasoning.
The proposed gallery goes beyond a world-class contemporary art experience. It is also conceived to serve the broader community as a multi-function space capable of transforming into a disaster recovery centre when needed — a layer of civic resilience embedded within a cultural landmark.
The expanded Noosa Regional Gallery will deliver a highly engaging art experience and establish a definitive cultural identity that resonates deeply with its community and place.
