Project Type Sport & Recreation

Open Architecture Studio has been engaged to work with Bundaberg Regional Council, Stantec and Arcadia to design the Master Plan for the redevelopment of the Kendall Flat Sports Complex. The redevelopment will be staged to support concurrent use of existing playing fields.

With cricket the main user of the site, diversifying the use of Kendall Flat and reconfiguring the playing fields to introduce AFL fields is a primary driver of the redevelopment. Players and visitors will welcome a new multi-sport pavilion and change facilities.

The shared Clubhouse, designed by Open, will sit between the premier cricket and AFL fields at the heart of the site.

The central location will maintain proximity to both fields, ensuring connectivity across the precinct and continuous use throughout all sporting seasons. With the current site dominated by playing fields, the redevelopment will improve functionality and circulation around the complex with improved lighting, car parking, pathways, shade and storage to encourage community use.

Project Benefits

The redevelopment of Kendall Flat Sporting Complex will increase capacity, accessibility and sustainability for players and visitors, The additional infrastructure will provide the club with the ability to offer more opportunities for community participation, engagement and activation.
